The Haley Collective: Homecoming - Community Gallery Exhibit

Friday, March 15, 2019 — Friday, May 3, 2019

The Arts Fund is pleased to announce the opening of THE HALEY COLLECTIVE: HOMECOMING, an exhibition of works by an important group of artists whose collaborative exhibitions energized Santa Barbara’s underground art scene from the late 1990s through 2005, curated by Nathan Vonk. A reception will be held at The Arts Fund Community Gallery on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 5-8pm during the Funk Zone Art Walk. THE HALEY COLLECTIVE: HOMECOMING will feature work by Tanner Goldbeck, Larry Mills, Jorge Rivas, Vanae Mary Rivera, Joe Shea and Yoskay Yamamoto.

This show is a passion project for me, as this group of artists got me started down the path towards becoming an art dealer. When I moved to Santa Barbara over 15 years ago, it was this collective that first got me excited about the local art scene, and inspired me to start my own art collection. It was also my introduction to the difficulties that artists have making a living in Santa Barbara, as slowly but surely many of these artists were forced to move away to support themselves. So this show is in part a documentation of an important part of our very recent art history, and also a reminder that as art patrons, there is still much to do to overcome these challenges.

– Nathan Vonk, Curator

The exhibition will be on view until Friday, May 3rd, 2019 at The Arts Fund Community Gallery, located at 205-C Santa Barbara Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101. Regular gallery hours are Thursday-Sunday from 12pm to 5pm and Monday through Wednesday by appointment only. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
