The Arts Fund presents...

The Arts Fund is pleased to announce the opening of Sticks and Stones, an exhibition of the Sewjourners Fiber Art Group curated by Ranell Hansen. A reception will be held at The Arts Fund Gallery on Friday, March 16th, 2018 from 5-8pm during the Funk Zone Art Walk. Sticks and Stones will feature work by Isabel Downs, Linda Estrada, Carol Fay, Ranell Hansen, Pamela A. Holst, Patti Hunter, Susan Bullington Katz, Mary Maxwell, Patty Six and Bobbi Tacoma.

Sewjourners is a group of ten emerging fiber artists, a satellite of the Coastal Quilter’s Guild. They are of diverse backgrounds and abilities but share a common heritage in the love of quilts and all things fabric. Sticks and Stones grew out of a group challenge. This exhibition of art created from fabric and thread explores diversity and individual expression. Some of the work is strong and angry, expressing themes of fear and sadness. Other pieces display a connection to the natural environment. Some artists work abstractly while others prefer representational. This is the first time Sewjourners has shown their work together.

The exhibition will be on view until Saturday, May 12, 2018 at The Arts Fund Gallery, located at 205-C Santa Barbara Street. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday-Sunday from 12-5pm and Monday and Tuesday by appointment. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

About the Arts Fund

The Arts Fund (www.artsfundsb.org) was established as a nonprofit in 1983. The Arts Fund is known for our Teen Arts Mentorship Program, which matches promising high school students with professional artist mentors in intensive workshops representing a spectrum of cultural arts. We are also known for our Community Gallery, which presents professionally curated art exhibitions featuring artists from across Santa Barbara County. Through our Guest Curator program, the gallery frequently invites exhibition proposals from the community in order to provide diverse, thought provoking and exciting exhibits.
