The Arts Fund welcomes you to the opening reception of Bad Neighbors - a debut solo exhibition by local artist, Santa Barbara High School senior & Teen Arts Mentorship Program Alum Evan Sherman.

The show is comprised of a collection of paintings that manifest the fragility of the world's ecosystems in this time of global change. Evan’s work speaks to contemporary art’s tendency to respond to the socio-political conflicts of the present. Evan hopes that his work can provoke conversation and inspire action in others.

Bad Neighbors tells the story of the intersections of humans and “nature”, spaces of collision and coexistence. While people tend to think of humans as separate from nature, our worlds are entwined like many threads in a blue and green blanket- a blanket that is beginning to unravel. Evan intends for this exhibition to act as a call to arms to protect our neighbors and the future of the human race.

Bad Neighbors will be on display from October 26th-November 8th, 2019 in The Arts Fund Community Gallery located at 205 Santa Barbara St., Santa Barbara CA. Pop-Up exhibition hours are Wednesday-Friday 2-6pm, and Saturday & Sunday 2:30-7pm.

Sherman will be the youngest artist to solo exhibit at The Arts Fund Community Gallery in our 36 years.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Evan Sherman was born in Santa Barbara California in September of 2002. Evan’s primary playgrounds growing up were the beaches and trails of Santa Barbara, an ecosystem that raised a kid passionate about surfing and the preservation of wildlife. Evan is currently a Senior at Santa Barbara High School in the Visual Arts and Design Academy.

Evan began exhibiting his works in 2017 and has since participated in over a dozen group exhibitions at galleries such as The Arts Fund, Breakfast Culture Club, State Gallery, Porch Gallery, Gilded Table, and Person Ryan Gallery.

Evan plans to pursue a degree in Fine Arts after graduating from high school.
